Japanese Garden

While the history of the Heian Jingu Shrine may be short in comparison to others of Kyoto, it’s worth a visit for the gardens surrounding the main shrine buildings. The Shin’en has a total area of approximately 33,000 square meters and was created over a 20-year period. The Japanese-style gardens are designated as a national scenic spot which represents Meiji-era garden designs.
