Kamikōchi

You’d never know I was a real “city girl” when the majority of my blog posts are of beaches or mountain ranges. But when you live in (or very close to) cities as big as Tokyo, taking a day trip into the countryside to clear your head is needed every so often. My first choice is usually a mountain.

This time I spent a day in Kamikōchi – and when I say “a day” I mean 1/4 of the day was spent there and the other 3/4 were used for travelling there and back. Kamikōchi is located in the Nagano Prefecture, surrounded by mountains of the northern Japanese Alps. Although it’s a popular hiking destination private cars are not permitted and access isn’t easy, meaning it’s one of the few places in Japan that isn’t terribly crowded. The scenery of the entire area is beautiful, and has been designated as one of Japan’s Natural Cultural Assets. In my opinion it was worth the trek to get there, however I was not the one driving…
