Lakeside

Lake Kawaguchi, the second largest and most popular of the Fuji Five Lakes, is a must for anyone living in the Tokyo region. As if the incredible view of Mt Fuji wasn’t enough, it’s also well known for the autumn leaves. From late October until the end of November, the maple trees that line the shores of the lake turn a vibrant red, a stunning contrast against the blues of the water, mountains and sky. Lake Kawaguchi can be reached by train from Tokyo in under 3 hours, making it an easy day trip. However for best visibility of Mt Fuji, as well as to avoid the tourists, aim to arrive before 10am.
