Miami Retro

Yesterday my sister and I were face with a very difficult question – what to do on the Gold Coast on a budget when the weather is beautiful but slightly too cold for swimming? Well after thorough research (with no help from “Siri”) we found Bike Central in Mermaid Beach which offers half day bicycle hires for $25. And not just any bikes – pastel pink retro bikes.

We decided to ride from Mermaid down to Burleigh Heads. It was an easy 45 minute ride on mostly flat surfaces and right next to the beach. Along the way we made a stop at the Miami Marketta. Although the street food markets and live music are only held on Friday’s and Saturday’s it’s still open to the public with the wall art projects all on display. The area was small but really interesting and felt like it belonged in a city like Melbourne rather than on the Gold Coast. I can’t wait to check it out one evening when the markets are on.

Miami Marketta is definitely worth a visit, if only for an “arty-farty” Instagram photo. Bonus points if your photo includes colourful Converses and a pastel pink retro bicycle…
