Lakes and Landscapes

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited was Lausanne, Switzerland. Situated on the coast of Lake Geneva, this French-speaking city boasts glorious views of the Jura mountains and is just a short train ride from Geneva and Montreux. The city itself feels much like a typical French city, though much cleaner and more expensive. Honestly, there’s not a whole lot to do in Lausanne but simply sitting by the lake, taking in the beautiful scenery was enough to occupy me for my entire stay.

Places worth visiting in Lausanne are the old town, the Ouchy waterfront and the Cathedral of Notre Dame. If you go to the cathedral make sure you check out the bell tour – quite a lot of stairs but worth it for the view from the top. A short boat ride across the lake from Ouchy you can visit the small town of Évian-les-Bains (yes, this is where Évian mineral water comes from) though there’s not much to do besides wander and enjoy the cheaper food.

I’d highly recommend Lausanne (or any of the cities surrounding Lake Geneva) to anyone passing through south-west Switzerland. You don’t see a landscape like this every day!
